A Phrase

Does anyone know the origin of "tickled pink" or "tickle me pink"?

  1. Well, not that I speak authoritatively or anything, but it seems that tickling someone or something is something that gives pleasure (hence why children laugh hysterically when they are tickled). The "pink" part comes in as a descriptor to show just how pleasureable something is or would be; that is, if you are extremely pleased or excited, more blood rushes to your face, thus making you more pink than normal. Make sense?

Thus, instead of "wow, he would just be tickled pink to hear that!", we could just as well say "wow, he would just be so pleased to hear that that blood would rush to his face!"...but the first way sounds better.
